Thanks for sharing Undis! Again something I never thought about... the rear lights, was it just the central one or just none fitted? Surely if they were to be used on the German roads, didn't the law still apply?
Sounds amazing too. |

amazing! it looks spot on! has an interesting turbine whine though...
not sure what the german rules were for rear lights but you might think a couple of reflectors to indicate the width of the car would have been sensible. period photos of these cars show they just had the central light though. |

The first drive at the Grundmann collection backyard at Hessisch Oldendorf. Not sure why it had to be in the dark, perhaps to show off the lights?
Under the cover of darkness for a test vehicle has a nice dramatic flair about it.
Off to the black forest for testing! |

Maybe someone can do a BW version of the video. Hearing it and seeing it drive really brings it to live. |

Can't believe #26 is going to be featured at our local car exhibition motionexpo this weekend! Valentin's recently discovered barn find 49 will be there as well. |

Seeing #26 in person was a real pleasure. It is stunning, and has lots of soul. it is not over restored or just a replica. The body lines are beautiful, and still allow for some traces of metalwork to be seen under the nine layers of nitrocellulose paint.
It was great occasion talking to the Grundmanns and their friendly manners and passion related to these cars are outstanding. It is now easier to understand how they can pull off such finds and restorations. it was also great to witness Traugott meeting the older Gentleman, who originally pulled chassis W30/26 from the woods around Gmünd, decades ago. That must have meant a lot for him to see this car restored to its original form.
38/06 was also on display, and seeing those 2 milestone VWs together is mindblowing. from prototype to final shape in 1 year, in the 1930s !

I've been told the book will be in German only, at least for now. Maybe we can contact the publisher and request them to consider an English language issue. I'm sure it would sell better worldwide.
You can preorder the book through the publisher, but it is also available on Amazon. |

I was told by Traugott that he suggested a double feature reprint of both #26 and 38/06 combined in one print. Whether or not this is going to happen later on, with bilingual text or not, probably depends on the publisher. |
