How are these superior to standard bearings and what is their application (street/strip/daily)? Are they worth the almost 4x price of standard mains?

They aren’t simply a replacement stock size bearing set. They have a very specific use for a flanged crank with Type 4 main journals in an unmachined standard linebore case. The other more common way was to take two sets of standard Type 4 bearing sets to create the two piece flanged bearing, then have the case line bored to accept the larger Type 4 bearing. Comparing prices to their counter parts are about the same, but there isn’t the additional machine work to the case needed.

Are you running a flanged crank?

Awesome, thanks for the response. I never heard of them before, so was just asking about their general application.

Nope, so now I don't need to worry about using these.

Makes me think 🤔 CB is going to start selling flanged cranks SOON. Dan

The current Empi/bugpack should be available to CB also. Wish a Porsche journal version was produced. Dan

The main issue with a flanged crank is the cost. That’s why Empi contacted Revmaster to start making the ones they used to do for Bugpack again. Empi has them listed for a little over $1500 for a crank/flywheel. That’s a bargain compared to the $2200+ the Scat ones are up to. And you don’t want to know what the Pro-Stock/Pro-Mod cranks are going for.

CB definitely is an innovator in creating something to fill a market void, or make performance stuff more available to the common hobbiest. With everyone complaining about aluminum rod bearings, they should of had King make some tri-metal VW/Chevy journal bearings.

The seal rides on the outer diameter of the rear flange section of the crank, as opposed to riding on the flywheel. The flanged seals are larger in diameter than a stock VW one, so the case needs machined for the seal.

I wound up buying these bearings. They're basically 411 adapters for standard type 1 mains. I opted out of doing the thrust conversion this time around since it is built into the bearing.

How is the crankshaft end play managed? I have a flanged crank and was going to have GEERS do the bronze bushing, but this seems reasonable alternative.
