View original topic: Cost to have 1600 block machined for 1776?

I'm a bit new so please excuse my question if it is a bit oversimplified.

I have a good condition 1600cc engine case and want to have my engine guy build me a 1776cc.

What is a reasonable/average cost to have this engine case machined to begin a 1776cc build?

It DOES need to be machined if we going with a 1776 build right?

Thanks all.

if alls it need is the case bores opened up and decked, expect to pay around $75-$150. Add around another $100-$200 for a proper align bore and thrust cut if it needs one. dont forget shipping cost. I would look into sending the case to NSR. Or, theres also a shop in west virginia or Kentucky thats supposed to be alright and have good prices.

edit, heres the other shop, http://www.keithsautoparts.com/machine-shop/1381729

I think I paid $250 to have my case cut first oversize thrust, first oversize line bore, bored for 90.5/92 cylinders, and drilled/tapped for full flow oil filter at Jansen Enterprises in Belmont California.

Just as a data point, I just had a case machined at Ron's Performance Machining here in Dayton, OH

Line Bore, Cut for 90.5/92 cylinders and deck, Case savers for 8mm studs, and drill and tap for full flow - $250

Here is what CB charges for machine work. Most VW shops are somewhere close in price. If they are way higher find another shop.

I've been told cb wont let you ship them your parts btw. Not that it matters to the point your making. Just though I'd put it out there.
