I have a Type 1 2021cc DP engine with a Kennedy Stage 1 Pressure Plate. I want to attach it to an early style transaxle w/older throw-out-bearing. I've read a lot of conflicting information.

Can I just get an early style T/O bearing pressure ring for the Kennedy PP and slide it on?
Do I need to remove the old cross shaft and replace it with a heavy duty one, with a new style throw-out bearing?

You just need the ring that goes on the PP fingers. I'm not sure if you can buy them separately or not but you could email Kennedy and check with them.
Maybe someone on here has one they can part with.

it is "possible" to install a late throwout bearing into the trans, but it's a PITA would not recommend.

Forgot to say that the transaxle is on a 1968 Type 1, if that matters.

What Modok posted a link to is what you will need for your transmission.
If that is an original German throwout bearing.....it might be a little dry inside.

Gently remove the cover in back and you can repack that bearing for another long life.

If the casting has the 3 bosses for the mounting studs, it's just a matter of marking the location and drill/tap the holes.

Agreed.
Tho if his trans is actually 1968 model, that's before it had the bosses.

Checked his gallery, there's a picture of a swingaxle, so correct as usual King Friday.
