Man, nice work. -both of you! I’m a square guy through and through but that is a sweet ride. Love to see it!
I just got mine up going (not “finished” yet) and drove it to work 2 weeks ago after nearly 10 years of tinkering. Best feeling in the world. |

Great feeling isn’t it? There are 2 long term projects I’ve really had a sense of accomplishment on in my VW life. When I put new pans in her Thing, and getting this thing on the road. Funny, I’ve owned 10 or so of my own over the last 30 years, but her 2 are the ones I feel like I’ve actually accomplished something on.
Anyway, enjoy your Square. Do you have a build thread? I’d love to check it out. |

So, had a fun VW filled weekend with the wife. Friday we went on a long drive through the Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia countryside. Took my Boxster because it was supposed to rain. As it turned out, we got stuck in a long downpour and a tornado Warning. So, I was glad I took the Boxster. The poor folks in the Buggies were miserable.
Saturday we went to an all makes local show. We got to meet Heather Storm of Garage Squad. She was extremely personable and great. Came over to our cars after she signed a poster for us, and posed with us in front of them. She looked over the Fastback and even offered my wife advice on how to do the interior work. Being an all makes show, her car got a ton of attention. Lots of questions, lots of I’ve never seen one before, even a guy who gave me his number and said he has a 70 something Fastback he wanted to sell for parts. It was a participant judged event. Wife was absolutely thrilled to get a top 30 award (there were about 100 cars registered). This was the first show she has gone to & entered since we finished the engine.
Today she took it to its first VW event, Dubs and Dogs. Lots of fun hanging out with friends, and our dog won the “top dog” award.

Nice car and nice work. I had a 67 squarebacks many years ago in that color and it was a great car. I never thought back then that these type 3 would one day be considered rare. Keep up the great work. |

Yeah hard to believe how rare they’ve become. They were everywhere growing up in LA in the 80s.
Thank you for the kind words. Lots of work to go still. |

Air cleaner is assembled and put back in the car. Also, while I was looking for 3D files to print for my Ghia, I came across the little plastic cover that goes on the steering column and covers the ignition wires. Printed it in black PETG and scaled it to 101% and it fit perfectly.
without the cover.
With the cover. |
