I think it went for like 7,000.00 desent deal because the rims were worth 1500.00.
You must of missed it was hit in the rear too. I hear its a ragtop with 250+ hp with 25 pounds of boost. Thanks I cant remember every thing. But I knew there was more. |

A real original 11G. $17Gs is a lot of coin, but from an investment perspective, you could not go wrong buying this one!!!

Pretty horrible investment for 17G's. But it is a nice 11G if you're looking for a Split.
Can't wait to see his museum.
WHAT?
What are you talking about? Thats a reasonable price for that car. A REAL 11G in decent shape. How many real ragtops have you seen for sale? NOT MANY. That car will appreciate alot over the next several years, moreso than a normal split. Somebody should get that car. If I wasn't in the middle of building a new house, I would have bought it already. |

It's a horrible 'investment' if you're trying to make money (there is about 11,000 better investments out there for 17G's). But if you're looking for a nice Split (like I said), it's a good deal.
The point I am trying to make is that not everything is about the $$$, sometimes it's just about the car. |

Exactly. It's a car. A nice split. Buy it for what it is, not as a 'investment.'
Whatever happened to fixing/working on them and driving them. Now every second post is about 'how much money is it, what's it worth, what can increase/decrease their value. |

My '50 has probably increased in value 20-40% in the 4 years I have had it. All the stocks and mutuals I have haven't even come close to that.... nor have a driven them on any winding back roads.
[Arguably I did get a pretty good deal on it though...]
I fix is, work on it and drive it often too BTW. As I do with my other 2 Beetles, none of which I bought to resell and make $$$. Nonetheless, financially speaking, they are all great investements. |

But when you go to sell it and the prospective buyer realizes it belongs to you that's bound to drop its value 20% for sure, best to sell it through a third party! |

Thanks for the tip, but I have no plans of selling any of them.
(....then again, I had no plans to buy the last one, until it came along....) |

Thanks Rich.
Regarding the bullets, the car was built in mid April, 1955, so semaphores were standard. April was the only month where you could get the optional "blinkers", of course, they became standard on US cars in mid May. My understanding is that alot of states did not allow semaphores in this period, so the semaphore boxes were welded up and bullets and snowflakes were installed.
During the restoration of the car, we noticed the semaphore boxes were filled in and the bullet turn signals were not the normal oval window bullets. These bullets were definately added on later, either by Karmann or the dealer.
Anyway, we opened up the boxes and reinstalled the semaphores and took off the bullets. So the car is correctly restored as a semaphore vert.
Regarding the rust, well, I never said my car didn't have rust issues. I said the pan was in good shape. I had a bit of rust in the body to deal with. But for a convertible that lived its entire life in the northeast, it was amazingly solid. Mostly surface rust.
Here is a picture of the car when it was stripped down. You can see the welded up semaphore box.

What would a running (but tired) original KdF engine with the correct parts including cogged fuel pump and carb and all be worth? |

This question arose several months ago. I believe the answer was $5-$10k |

Just a heads up for those who have Discovery HD.
The Sour Kraut episode is playing this Tuesday 1/24 @ 3PM EST.
Set your DVRs or call in sick.
I missed it the first 10 times it aired.
I can't wait to see it in HD. |
