| Just got some new bare single port castings from Chi-*ahem* "Cip1", lets just say recycled pop cans but workable, I wont get into all the details but they effed em up bad, gonna need a lot of work; But anyways Ill post more later, what I need to know is the bottom of the valve seats are 'stuck out' into the port for half the circumference, can i blend them to the port or should i weld up that area and blend it to the seat? Advice, don't get single port heads from Cip1, what garbage... not only that but the entire intake area has to be rewelded up and reshaped so the oring can actually seal and that there is an actual radius going to the port not a 90* flat... gzuz, still have to assess the combustion chambers.... more later, with pics |

Im half tempted too, but the machinist part of me wants the challenge, the worst is I have to pay to ship them back for a defective product; Shouldnt be that way; My heads are worse but here is an example link:
https://www.jbugs.com/SV/image/VW-Engine-Identification-Single-Port-1300cc-1600cc-6.jpg
The pad and the o-ring seat are machined too low, note the lack of radius/transition in the port due to over machining the o-ring seat, if you take out the rag around that edge there is nothing left for the o-ring to seal to! The only way to repair that garbage is to either weld it up or insert an interference fit spacer similar to a valve seat and reshape it to work with the correct depth, but yet the pad has to come up too so the intake ends line up again with the center section as that will be off too. Very poor quality control and obviously were never test fitted after machining. And still there is the problem with valve seat overhang in the ports that will require welding or epoxy fill;
Seems there is no quality control or anything these days, and think the company selling them would do some quality control; If I was Cip1 I wouldn't be sending that garbage out to customers |

| I've quit buying engine parts from them for just this issue. Why should I be on the hook for crap you ship me? Its gotten cheaper even with shipping to buy stuff out of the USA,than from a company in my home country. Cost me $45 to ship a set of rods that should never have left the factory let alone been put on a boat. |

Pull the seats, and put new larger seats in for 37mm intakes.
Then weld up the intake flange counterbore and bolt holes. Mill the flange flat, re-drill the studs to 8mm, and use exhaust stud spacing. Then build nice manifolds.
All problems solves, and greatly improved.
Here is one I did 10 years ago.

We call the alloy "wheelium" or "pistonium". They're made of re- melt aluminum wheels and pistons.
Alloy wheels are some of the best bucks in the scrap market. 8)

Sounds like.... not what you wanted.
You want to trade for some workable OE heads?
Or, I agree with Brian. Not really worth fixing it, unless you fix it to be even better. |

YOu want to polish a turd, is that it?
If the seats are over-hanging the port = means the casting is shit.
There are plenty of used OG singleports out there by dime/dozen.
As far as exhaust studs, get some of that S/S Ford studs in metric. |

After looking at those heads for a good bit, sending them back. Going to find some good factory cores and redo them, I already have new SS valves, guides, hd springs, and 4 intake valve seats.
Edit: just found a good set of cores and got those |

if thats all, I see no issue. nothing is ready outa the box. just port them. ( if I were building a hp engine with single ports I would bore it bigger and make bigger ends too..and probably split the ends so ti's a hiddeen duel port, with incert going down in the port. make bigger intake and put some wrap on it if you dont want anybody to see it's bigger. "oh, Im just trying to keep the intake cooler." :)
but other than that comming fron cip... thats a non issue.
Ive used the mofogos, after a lot of port work wedge porting them , bigger valves, reshaping the chambers, duel sprungs ,milling, they worked great.I had well over 150000 fun zinger miles on them when I sold the car. I did flow test them as cast and they did flow within 2 cfm of what was published. |
