How are you liking the new BBT parts?

Ring-Free Fri Apr 19, 2024 1:18 pm

what do you mean by "new BBT parts"?
all the parts I have are very good, but there are also some that are bad. Unfortunately the quantities are so high that it takes ages to get an improved version. The main thing is that a bus comes out at the end

Hey There.

BBT is the company distributing the Silver Weld Through Primer Panels. 😊✌️

Looks great …. Keep it up. 🤩👊

So... the final work on the rear section.
I refurbished a few parts from the bus, made new sheet metal and used parts from my stock

For the first time.
Something glued in.

Then the final welding in of all the parts that come together.

Yes! We have an engine compartment and a luggage compartment again.

A few before / after impressions as a reminder

Very satisfied after finishing this section \:D/

On the left is daunting. On the right is immaculate.

Ring-Free Mon Apr 29, 2024 10:16 am

I took care of the side sill.

adapted and prepared for gluing at the inside.

It didn't quite fit at the back and I had to adjust it.
I welded it in and added a patch to the wheel arch.
I'll close the front when the dogleg is welded in

next I'll do the inside of the side panels. Remove rust and a bit of paint. At least the lower part. I think I need new sheet metal on the top too

Hello
Part of the reinforcement for the side wall was very rusty. I had one piece left and put it in.

I sandblasted it a little

, glued it in and welded it.

Primed the whole thing with some paint

Coming together very nicely 😎

Ring-Free Tue May 07, 2024 10:20 am

Thanks

I now wanted to turn my attention to the front. Difficult, I need functioning doors to align the front. To repair and align the doors, I need a front.

The air intake at the top is also very damaged.

There were the usual culprits

I actually wanted to take care of the roof later, but it's in the way of repairing the front. I took it off.

A very sad picture
That gives a very long weld seam with lots of spots

That's a really cool shot the contrast between the new and old metal.

Are you going to do the painting yourself too? Have you seen ziza zubers work? He does amazing patina paint blending.

Ring-Free Tue May 07, 2024 1:53 pm

Yes, that's what I plan to do. I'll have to experiment a bit when the time comes. It's more of an artistic act.
I don't know "ziza zubers". Where can you see something

He does incredible things with paint I'm thinking of sending him my bus for a very mild faux patina paint job because I've no real want for a shiney paint bus with all new parts.

Ring-Free Thu May 09, 2024 10:12 am

now that the roof is off, you can see all the damage caused by rust

The middle gutter has already been dismantled.

the rear corners and the piece in between can remain. I thought the front ones would be OK but they are dead too

Unfortunately, the window frames inside and outside are partly bad. I will probably use new sheet metal on the inside and only repair parts on the outside.

The small pile of my gutter

Absolutely fantastic work, Sir! I have much of the same stuff to do on mine and you're a great inspiration. Looking forward to seeing how you do the a pillars and nose/dash section.

Ring-Free Sat May 11, 2024 11:28 pm

@rudygetz
Thank you

@AlanInMass54
I thought to myself when you introduced your bus, "this is all coming your way too"
Good luck

Marc ;

That's a neat old Kombi you're saving, really you're remanufacturing it .

Your skill set and attention to detail is amazing .

Ring-Free Fri May 17, 2024 11:24 am

Thanks Nate

I already had a few parts for the edge of the roof, but I added some for the front and got some sheet metal for the window area.

I have repaired the right window frame and the upper edge of the side panel

first fitting of the roof gutter

I have to adapt the inner window frames and put old and new together. The repair kit is for the right side and 4 windows. I have 3 on the left side and they are slightly different

But first I have to prepare everything
