If you can afford a bit more, get a rebuilt German carb from Tim.

I run one from them. Its fine but not worth the money. Its just a china EMPI carb had metal chips in the passages acc pump nozzle was pointed in the wrong direction and float level was off. It was a money grab don't bother. Socal imports screwed me on a (remanufactured intake and end castings) they painted the intake and the end casting were sanded flat on a 20 grit belt sander. Had vacuum leaks like crazy took an hour on a flat plate with fine sandpaper to make them right. The intake heat riser was pugged solid. Owner is a idiot.
I have something positive... the electric choke works perfectly |

If you insist, West Coast metric has it much cheaper. |

I forgot the carb lid is sanded flat they did a great job =D> But never corrected the float level. Hints why it was low. |

And the problem mostly is ------> Redline
So I won't pretend to know the whole story.....I really don't care. (at least not anymore)
But.....the idea is that Redline is the importer for Weber/Spain. Tom (?) at Redline will tell you that when the move from Italy to Spain happened it was simply a tooling/equipment move and some employees stuck around and some didn't. Spain took over and all has been gravy ever since because...well....nothing really changed except locale and a few personnel...... (WRONG!)
I'm not sure if Spain did a good job at some point in the past, but today....they are not. Oh...they go thru the motions.....they just have problems.
Castings are first.....(Not sure who's handling their foundry work but castings are not healthy.)
Inspection is second....(Again, not sure who's in charge but "paint marks" on carb bodies that ***INDICATE*** somebody looked these things over means ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!!
Since 2021, I'm done arguing with them and we go China on all carbs now. They aren't perfect but they more consistently run better out of the box and with a little brass swapping (I like Weber's emulsion tubes specifically) they are my "go to"! (We've put Kipa and unmarked versions of the same on many motors since Covid and they are working better more consistently than Redline/Weber)
Sorry for the rant............I just cannot stand what Redline has done to Weber with their excuse being..."Nothing has changed!" BULLSH!T!!!!

That's interesting my buddy runs a classic Mercedes repair shop. Gets interesting deals now and then a customer did brand new redline weber carbs (not by them) double barrel (sidedraft types) He took it on trade for labor on the customers Gullwing they repaired.
The ACC nozzle was fixed drilled in the carb body shot dead on the butterfly shafts ran like Sh!T. He trashed them and rebuilt the OG Solex carbs in the trunk Well you can figure the rest. |

Up until about 5 years ago the Spanish IDf´s were quite ok. Since then the quality has gone one way, - downhill. It is really sad, that we have to say that Chinese produced carbs are better than carbs produced in the EU.
That said. Be carefull which Chinese you buy. Some sellers yank out 2. sorting carbs at very low and intreaguing prices. You can be lucky that it is only cosmetic issues, and you can be lucky that it is something much worse.
No matter the brand we occasionally see a carb that doesnt work properly. When that happens we replace it and use the bad one for spare parts instead. |

Last 2 sets of Weber caarbs were complete shit. Idle screw seats fell out of 3 or the 4 carbs (no they weren't over tightened). The first set had one defective carb so I glued the seats back in and tried to tune them but nothing I did would make it run right, They had a bunch of shavings and dirt specs in them as well. The customer sent them back. The second set I just returned as soon as I seated the screws an the seats started coming out. I had a set of 44s 4 years that I could not for the life of me tune. Absolutely nothing worked. The owner sold them. We put on a set of HPMX carbs with the exact same jets, vents and E tubes and it ran terrific first try..... |
