Mike Basso at Thingparts.com offers a wiper motor rebuild service that you may want to consider before you tear into it yourself.
Thanks. I think there is another guy on here that does it too? I also found a thread on doing the rebuild (I hope I book.marked it). It did not look too hard if I can get the parts. I have rebuilt a couple old FJ40 Landcruiser ones with success.
Although if it is actually turn out to run $229 that is probably a steal

Maybe I will give him a call.

Pretty convinced some cars just hate me.
Went to change the tranny fluid...I knew there was a seep but jeezz....

Ordered the seals kit for both sides. Guess I will have to wait until well after Xmas to get this done.

I am planning on moving my oil filter up into the engine compartment and building a decent mount for it.

Is there any reason to put in a check valve to prevent oil from draining back into the block if it is that high?

There are some AN8 checkvalves specifically for something like that out there.

Seems like the general consensus is no:

Happy new year all you 181 folks.
I am back from a vacay of sorts and returned to find several small packages.
One included my new GA tag reading "KUBEL." I am not sure how I was able to beat my fellow Gerogians to that but, hey? What can I say?

Next, I got some small rear seat parts from West Coast Metric and tossed those on as well as new axle seals for the leaking rear flange seal. Was able to knock that mess out this afternoon. In doing so I discovered the CVs were not properly clocked soc leaned those up and got that right as far as I can tell. Also a few of the CV bolts were loose.

I also now have 135, 140 and 145 main jets so I will get back at that tomorrow.

Mixed bag today.
I finally got around to pumping grease into the front beam. It took nearly two whole tubes and pushed some water out of the ends of the lower. Clearly this has not been greased in years.

Then I went back at the tuning. Changed to a 140 main jet and once warmed up it seemed fairly happy. Cold not so much.

When I put the car away the horn stopped working and I diagnosed it as the contact bezel around the steering shaft. Which sucks.

And then the wipers fully gave out. Motor runs but the wipers won't move. That can NOT be good compared to beer and pizza. I previously had only slows so was planning on tearing them apart anyway.

I also.took advantage of a W00T sale and got a big 84" chineseum fan for the shop. It is nice enough so I bought a second.

After some back and forth and cracking a Euro lens I found these aftermarket elephant feet.
Such better look than those Euros IMO.
Wife said, "It has it's mojo back!"

In other news, I am hoping for a decent coupon from Summit for Preidents' Day. I have decided to get an Innovate LM-2 to help with these and some other tuning.

I just read your post about moving the oil filter. I just spent a little bit of time looking at where to mount the remote filter on mine. Take a look in the transaxle area. Look directly above the driver's outboard cv. There is a big flat wall, the inboard side of the wheel well. That looks like a great spot and it would be easy to route the lines there.

I was kinda thinking inside the engine bay and repurposing one of the airbox mounts. Since most modern oil filters apparently have a check valve none would be needed in the extended lines.
My lines are in pretty bad shape so it is high time to make a move and replace all that.

Here’s where i put mine. Made a bracket that bolts to the existing plate on the drivers side

Fully protected from rocks or damage plus makes oil changes easy
