Of course as people are sent home to where they belong, the housing crisis here will be reduced, rents decreased, housing opens up. Also the tax burden for public services will be decreased at the same time. This may free up funds for say, fire department improvements.

If not enough Americans are available, legal work visas maybe provided to help with this temporary need. Of course if one is an American construction worker, one may not like the decrease in wages that such a step might cause. But at least if the visitor has a legal work visa, then proper income taxes will be paid, worker protection laws will be observed.

There is two sides to every coin. With smart policy, we can have the best side of that coin.

"The Pew Research Center estimates that 1.8 million immigrants in California were undocumented in 2022, down from 2.8 million in 2007."

I have only seen an increase in rent for the last (at least) 5 years. There has been a shortage of affordable housing and substantial increase in homelessness during that same period. A lot of cities refuse to build affordable house are are being sued by the State to fufill that mandate.

You might find this interesting as well-

Undocumented immigrants paid $96.7 billion in federal, state, and local taxes in 2022. Most of that amount, $59.4 billion, was paid to the federal government while the remaining $37.3 billion was paid to state and local governments.

Undocumented immigrants paid federal, state, and local taxes of $8,889 per person in 2022. In other words, for every 1 million undocumented immigrants who reside in the country, public services receive $8.9 billion in additional tax revenue.

More than a third of the tax dollars paid by undocumented immigrants go toward payroll taxes dedicated to funding programs that these workers are barred from accessing.

Undocumented immigrants paid $25.7 billion in Social Security taxes, $6.4 billion in Medicare taxes, and $1.8 billion in unemployment insurance taxes in 2022.
At the state and local levels, slightly less than half (46 percent, or $15.1 billion) of the tax payments made by undocumented immigrants are through sales and excise taxes levied on their purchases. Most other payments are made through property taxes, such as those levied on homeowners and renters (31 percent, or $10.4 billion), or through personal and business income taxes (21 percent, or $7.0 billion).

Six states raised more than $1 billion each in tax revenue from undocumented immigrants living within their borders. Those states are California ($8.5 billion), Texas ($4.9 billion), New York ($3.1 billion), Florida ($1.8 billion), Illinois ($1.5 billion), and New Jersey ($1.3 billion).
In a large majority of states (40), undocumented immigrants pay higher state and local tax rates than the top 1 percent of households living within their borders.

Holy shit, what are US citizens going to do without the illegals that do everything from wash dishes, to cook our meals, to build our houses, to mow our lawns, to pick our crops, to work on our cars, to dig our ditches…?!?

If all of these illegals are doing all the work, why is the government putting them in housing, putting them in clothes, giving them prepaid food vouchers, & giving them free medical treatment?

Send ALL of the “undocumented” the fuck back to wherever they came from, & maybe some of those homeless could fill a few of those positions.

1.8 million in california. Assume four per household, that means 0.45 million housing units.

If prop 13 in calif gets overturned, which is a relentless goal by some, boatloads of people won't be able to stay.

Prop 13, enacted in 1978, keeps prop tax increases to 2% per year. If the home is sold, it's reassesed at current market value

For ex, I bought in 1983, my prop tax is $2500 per year. Without prop 13, it would rise to $27,000 per year and I would be forced to move

That's the goal, to increase revenue for cities and the state

Yep. a larger population in construction than that of Agriculture.

which is fine, because seeing how they build things, I'm 100% ok with them not building 1 thing in the US without training.

let's be real....to no fault of their own they don't have the skills for a proper building. Hard workers for sure, but when all you work with is sub standard (materials, codes, training etc) it will be a huge waste utilizing them to rebuild anything

Fast, Cheap, Correct...pick 2.

Gotta offset that sudden drop in income from the commercial properties somehow, especially if California wants to keep overpaying all those DEI hires.

Ok, we're done now that we are getting into political shit again and I'm sick of cleaning it up.
