Does anyone know how far the clutch arm on the transmission should travel when you push the clutch pedal all the way down? My bug won't go into gear when the engine is running. I replaced the clutch cable and adjusted it. Still doing the same thing. I found someone online that said it should go 3/4" to 1"?? Brand new clutch, pressure plate and flywheel last year. I didn't replace the gland nut/pilot bearing. Maybe that's bad? It grinds when I try to put it in gear.Let me know if you have any idea.
Thanks

3/4-1" sounds about right.
If you pilot bearing is toast, could be grabbing the shaft and spinning it?
How does the pedal feel? Do you have a little "free play" before there's pressure? There should be about 1/2" before you feel pressure on the pedal. Should be resistant, then get easier once past the folcrum or tipping point (whatever they call it).
No need to run the engine.
Stick in gear, push in clutch with right foot, use left foot to see if you can roll the Bug around. |

1. Did it shift fine after the new clutch, pressure plate and flywheel and this just started happening?
2. Does the pressure plate have a center ring? Is yours 180mm or 200mm clutch assembly?

#1 yes everything has been working great for the last year since I installed all the new stuff.
#2 I guess I will let you know tomorrow after I pull the engine out. I don't remember.
I was just trying to see if someone knew how far the clutch rod should move when you pushed the clutch all the way down. |

You might have broken welds on your clutch cable tube Inside the tunnel. |
