Updraft carbs are pretty common in aviation, old cars and tractors too. On non flying vehicles the advantage was that you could mount the carb low and eliminate the fuel pump with a gravity feed. I have a 1940s Farmall with an updraft Zenith.
It's also possible that this kit is missing a piece and is meant for a side-draft placed under the sump. |
