| I just bought an 86 vanagan with a water cooled 2.1 with a manual 4 speed. It had been setting in a barn for probably at least 5 years. I've got it running great, new brakes all around and new transmission shaft and shifter bushings. Tried to move it now for the first time and the clutch feels like it is stuck open like the pressure plate springs are broke. Slave cylinder is been bled and the shift goes up and down on the side of transmission. I can manually put it in gear but it feels like the clutch is pressed in. I can't hear it slipping or anything. Anybody have a clue before I drop the trans? Thanks |

Hi,
Happened to me in 2024. Had the engine out for two years and when I installed it, pressed the clutch, the car went forward. Tried moving the car back and forth, popping the clutch and NADA.
I took the engine out which takes a lot of time since its Turbo'ed and had to use a screwdriver to loosen the disc from the pressure plate since didn't come out by hand. |

He described the opposite problem you goofs.
And it seems unlikely, tho clutch disks do occasionally explode.
Check the cv joints. Could be blown cv or stripped axle. |

| Even if the diaphram is broken it should grab a bit. Like Modok said, check for a broken CV or stripped hub could be a blown up disk but I'd guess it's something internal. I'd be wondering why it was parked for 5 years. Usually if it was something simple people fix things. |
