Hi Guys

I recently bought an engine with an Eagle cam in it

The cam is stamped with the number 42 on it

I assume it's an Eagle 2242

Please advise

I wouldn't count on that. I had a cam that had 56 stamped on it and thought it might have been a CB 2256, it was not. don't know what it was or who made it but it didn't have the same specs as a 2256. only real way for you to know is to measure your cam, even if you can't get duration, just getting the lift would be a start to seeing if it matches the 2242.
I wouldn't assume anything with a cam, unless your looking at it like any cam is better than stock and you don't really care.

I'm a big believer that the manufacturer knows more than anonymous people on the interwebz. So unless you need an answer NOW, contact the manufacturer and give it a few days.
