Hi Guys

I watched a video with a guy dialing in his cam on his new CB Performance engine,How ever he has an adjustable cam gear

It seems a long process and I can see it's worth the effort

My question is what's the point in dialing in a cam if you have a fixed cam gear .You can't advance or retard the cam. Once the cam is bolted to the gear it's fixed, All you can really do is install.

Am I missing something here or not ???

You are correct. One reason to why we just about never use those ;-)

to make sure the cam is ground correctly is the main one , I do it on all four lobes after getting a Scat cam that had one lobe a lot bigger than the other 3 , (10 degrees at 0.050")

1 more reason to stay away from Scat cams. They are terrible, and have been for at least a decade

One of my CB cams measured out to need 2* advance and the other was dead nuts, with the same gear. To get them aligned with the cam cards, anyway.

Gotta get the adjustable gear…

The point of checking the cam timing, is to check your cam timing.

There are no warning lights in the space shuttle for things the astronauts can't control, its true,
but we aren't in space are we?
If it is too far off there are many ways to do something different.
