Hello again,
I have a 5-rib with an 091 bell housing transaxle in my sand rail build. I have a Type 1 2276 stroker motor that will be built and used in it.
I picked up an 091 front bell housing at a swap meet this spring and it's going to be mounted onto one of my three motor stands and I hope to use it as a start up stand when the motor is completed.
On my sand rail 091 bell housing, I have the correct 091 adapter and TDI starter set up. I really don't want to pull the parts from my sand rail bell housing to the run stand every time I want to fire up a motor.
My question, what starter do I need to buy for the 091 bell housing with a Type 1 motor and 12v flywheel? Do I just purchase a '76 bus starter?
Thanks, Dan |

Yes you need a starter for the 091. Starter has to throw further out, and inside bell housing is deeper.
There has been others that milled the 091bell housing at starter location to use a standard Bug starter. I think it does require some filler weld in one place. |

Thanks, at least I know what I need to do now!

Dale, Have you looked lately for a used 002 bell housing?
If you can find one for Cheap let Dan Know.
Have seen what the prices are now for a Bus IRS transaxle? |
