greatest doesn’t equal favorite, in my humble opinion.

greatest? without a doubt, elvis. he changed the world.

(presley, not costello.)

favorite? linda ronstadt. clear as a bell and tonally pure.

Wow, some great names mentioned makes it even harder to choose. I listened to Susan Tedeshi from early 90s song called “Rock me Right”

In harder rock. Ronnie James Dio.
In oldies. Johnny Maestro.

Hey Tom, How did he change the world and why in your opinion is he the greatest Rock singer? I’m an Elvis fan. So I’m not dissing on the King. However he didn’t write his own songs and only had a fantastic near 3 octave range. He was however an amazing performer, fashionista, and iconic personality. He was in my opinion a real good dude. I’m asking for your thoughts on what is a “Great Rock Singer” I’m not sure there is one answer. Look at Taylor Swift. Her music is not my jam and was never intended for middle age dudes but she has amazing talent. She checks a lot of boxes as a great musical artist but maybe not a greatest singer technically.

My favorite rock singer and front man is Robert Plant. 4 octave range and diverse musical styles over the years deep into his later years. Dude has maintained that “It factor” and popularity amongst many generations. If I could only bring one Singers entire catalog of music to a deserted island it would be Robert Plants bands and collaborations.

Some great Artists mentioned above and nobody is wrong. Unless it’s not Rock!

We've got Heart tickets. Couldn't tell you where. Probably Boston. They don't play Penn's Peak.

There you go. Had me worried for a while there.

Cue up 2:21, though. Pretty shreddy for 1983, innit? For years I thought that was Richie Blackmore. It's Vivian Campbell of Def Leppard fame.

hi x,

a huge question (or series of questions) deserving a proper answer. however, this ain’t the time or place. time? in the future. place? over coupla (or more) beverages.

quick improper answer.

while others were there at rock’s birth (jerry lee and little richard among others), elvis spread rock across the planet.

his technique was spot on, if limited to near-to-three octaves, but his emotions elevated the music to a whole nother level.

he broke societal restraints on the expression of sensuality, and brought the conversation about sex into the open.

he excelled in multiple genres (gospel, cnw, pop standards), but, alas, not opera, abscate.

his influence went way beyond music.

he was a genius.

i could go on, but…..

all of this is my opinion. you all choose whom you wish.

plus, i think taylor swift is amazing, too. not sure it’s rock, but to each their own. she sure knows human emotions and human interaction.

love,

dt

Changed the world is a huge statement.

This guy sold a few records. A pioneer of rock.

And the King

I respect Justin Bieber and Justin Timberlake too.

My favorite is Katrina from Katrina and the Waves. Not really because of that song but the memories when I hear her. I was TDY to RAF Alconbury in England working in a nuclear storage area and one night a band called Mamas Cooking was playing at the NCO Club. They were all Air Force dependents and too young to even drink. They played a lot of covers, and she had a husky voice and was really good. I guess she changed her style and stayed in England.

That's why I specified 'greatest and/or favorite.'
