| I have a 1500 single port motor with a 009 distributor and a solex pic 30 carburetor and converted it to an alternator. The motor was running fine and now it seems to be starving for gas. I think it is the fuel pump. What pump do I need to replace the old pump? Also is there a difference in pumps since I changed it to an alternator. |

| I'd check fuel filter first. If no fuel filter, then check strainer sock in the gas tank. |

| It has a new fuel filter and the tank has been treated. Also has a new fuel line. Everything looks good. |

| Alternator style fuel pumps are tilted to the left and use a different length push rod. But generator style fuel pumps clear the alternator. Installing gen style with an alt and using a center mount carb may require removing carb studs. I suspect you know that already if you replaced the alternator and left the existing gen style fuel pump. |

| I don’t know what the fuel pressure is. When removing the line to the carburetor, it does pump when the motor turns over. But I feel that when running, holding 2000rpm, it fades away and I have to pump the throttle to keep it running. You can hear the accelerator pump squirt when you pump the throttle, when the motor is off. |

What did you treat the tank with? Maybe it flaked and it’s blocking the sock
Have you changed the pump yet? When you do you need to change the rod. Generator fuel pump uses a 108mm rod and an alternator pump uses a 100mm rod.

| Gas tank was treated for rust and isn’t flaking. carburetor has been rebuilt and you can hear it squirting gas when pumped. It has a new 009 distributor and timed correctly. Installed a new fuel line and new filter. I blew air back through the fuel line to make sure it wasn’t blocked. Got a new fuel pump with the correct rod installed. Car starts right up and idles great until it warms up. When holding 2000 rpm it starts to fade and you have to pump it to keep it running. As soon as you get off the throttle, it dies. The chock is working correctly and wide open when it gets hot. Any thoughts on what to do next? Do I need to pull the carburetor off again and check to see if there’s a clogged jet? Running out of ideas. |

Idle Jet solenoid failing?
Had it happen to me recently with my 30PICT-1 Solex.
Replaced the old bad one with a good used one, back to normal. |

| I checked the selnoid and it it working. But could the plunger arm be to long and not pull back far enough to disengage? After doing some research. The solenoid is for a 34 pic 3 carburetor, not for a 30 pic 1 carburetor. My question is can I delete it all together? |

| You can delete those by putting an idle jet in its place. I cannot remember what size the jet was though so hopefully someone else will give that info. |

Years ago the electric idle valves were commonly replaced with idle/pilot jets which were used on the earlier 28 pict series carbs. I used these on all the 30 pict-1s on my motors. I have attached 2 pictures of the location on the carb and the jet itself. It is shown in the center right of the carb with the flat head screw head. I do not know if there is a current source for these but they worked well for me.

I’ve got an anti -deiseling solenoid in my parts stash that someone simply cut the plunger off of and reinstalled it.
So that’s another shadetree solution if you find yourself backed into a corner. |

| Problem solved. I found a jet laying on top of the engine case. It went under the choke. It was hard to see and get to without removing the carburetor, but once it was replaced, the engine runs great again. Thank you all for your help. |
