Ok, lazy bones.
Taken from the Technical tab on this site '71 Beetle 1600cc 60 HP at 4400 RPM. "66 type 3 65 HP at 4600 RPM.
So I missed it by 1 HP, just going on memory on that one.
How hard was that to fact check? |

Yeh ,Mr Moody, how hard was it to back up what you said with where you got it from?
My point in asking @ what rpm was because i was betting that the T3 with duals making 5 ( to 6 ) more hp also turned higher rpms. So it wasnt just the duals alone that added the additional hp.
be interesting to see is the torque ratings & rpm too. |

Well it’s all there for the looking just like I told you in that post you questioned.
I don’t really think that 200 RPM is going to add 5 HP all on it’s own. |

Probably because some guru somewhere said they didnt work..
They do look cool though! Assume they were a slide type carb, like a Mikuni? |

Possibly, at that length youd have to have nothing but torque and all in at 2000 rpm. Be like driving a diesel.

Okay, that is some crazy long runners. The look goofy as hell, but it would be cool to see these on a dyno. Hell, it would be GREAT to actually see any of the VW air cooled stuff on a dyno. Theres not many objective A/B tests for performance parts on VWs I could find on youtube. |

did you see Fun with vdubs' video thread? they did some cool stuff especially in the beginning.
maybe they'd do some Dyno testing? especially if someone else took the time to make some manifolds |

Yes I very much enjoyed the grass roots beginning of that series. Very practical and educational but then they branched off into a "shoot for the highest numbers" format that a thousand other sites on line have already done. At that point I lost interest.
I get it though. The guy that owned the shop has to make money and testing little add ons and such was not promoting what he does for a living. |

Yeah, they have some good videos and some actual A/B testing. I wish they posted more graph comparisons. And they never did HD springs with any of the mods on the basic 1600. The HD springs let the engine actually rev past 4000rpms so you can get some benefit from the mods. There no point in bigger carbs, 1.4 rockers, and an exhaust if the valves float at 4000. My engine revs to the moon and keeps pulling to what most people here would say is too high, but if its still making power I assume its fine. |
