Interesting article Titled- Salt Shaker - Sub 2 Litre Record. Bob Stahl in a 65 steel boded street legal Bug, with a 1970cc 71mm stoke, 94mm bore, worked 914 heads, Gene Berg 5 speed, Isky Cam, Speical Carter Gear box. With 196hp. He ran on the Muroc and El Mirage dry lakes in Southern Calif.
The record is held for ANY steel bodied car under 2.0. Not just VW's This is an old article, like 98. I wonder if any one beat the record.
THe speed -- 150.506mph!!! |

I don't know if it still stands or not....
Last I heard he was destroking it to 43mm and adding a bigger bore to gain his ccs to turn around 15,000 RPM with a new arrangement of valves and etc. He was still using TIV heads last I heard. |
