Hey, I thought I'd let ya'll know of a new barndoor that's come up for sale.

Anyway, what's the odds on the last two Sundays a barndoor comes up for sale.

I couldn't afford to buy it back, I sold it to him to begin with..

He's had it for almost a year and it's been undergoing a ground up resto. It just came out of paint. IMO this is a good deal, I just have too many
other fiscal priorities right now and this was "a bus too far" for me.

no pic, no price....

I'll post some pics of it, he sent me a few.

I would be all over this, I actually was, but my wife is on me for getting
her vert done

I'll put some pics out in the gallery.

Uhm, no it didn't sorry, I owned this bus for quite awhile and I had
everybody telling me "keep it OG paint." The paint was rough when I got it.

OG is nice, but this needed a paintjob. Job changes and a few things in my life prohibited me from getting it done on this one. And unfortunately I just couldn't afford it right now.

if these two are the same bus, that is a damn shame.

I'm curious as to why you think it's a shame? I might not prefer the color scheme, but he's doing right by it.

He did that bus an injustice.

it is only original paint once. even if it has heavy patina, there are many many people who like that. before it got painted it was one of probably less than half a dozen original paint barndoor kombis. now there is one less. I don't know what he is aking for the bus, but if it was original paint and priced $10k less than it is priced now, it would sell a lot faster.

Well, this is one of those discussions that go round and round. Frankly, if there's one less, then the others clicked up a notch in price right? So, he's done a service to the others. He'll get what he needs for it, and somebody will get a nice bus. It may not be OG paint, but it's still a nice bus.

True!

not sure what'S the fuzz about original paint...

okay, some are still original, but with a new paint, you give him a few more years before rust kill it for good, no?

You're right. However if you have patina it's a mixed bag of opinions on the subject, kinda like what beer do you drink? SOme like the fact that you can see the OG factory paint runs and that it shows the history of the vehicle, just like an antique. But these antiques are meant to be driven
and painting them, when necessary, is something that has to be done.

Lind, that looks like my old 54 kombi, with a bit more surface rust. where/when was that pic taken?
compare to 20-105 342
http://www.barndoor.dk/Gallery54_18.html

I heard that Will Woods (who bought it from me and my ex when we split) still owned the Basic Blue Bus. that kombi was cool.. we spent 3 days in the dirt in the mountains of Idaho making it run, then drove it 500 miles home. Then fixed the wonky steering, bought new front shocks and gave it good rear shocks, found 16" rims, early taillights, crank set up, etc. for it. It was a daily driver for a while. It was sold new in Kenniwick, Wa, and actually had the original sigla windsheilds. I had to buy that bus to get a 6 legged middle seat for my standard.

After Woods got it home, the asshole called me to bitch that a fan belt and points broke on his drive to Utah at 60 mph. big fat whiney deal. What about thanks for making it a reliable barndoor with a sweet 36hp?

Actually, I called to tell you about a laugh I had getting it back and the fun we had getting it home, not to bitch.. You and Rain were a trip to meet up with. I'd do it again in a heartbeat. YOu guys certainly had a stash of stuff, probably still do...

And it's Wood as in tree, not as in forest.

You ever get rid of that Toenail Fungus?

That's a joke Clara, you're okay in my book and you know your shit.

I like og paint t<But when half the bus is surface rust,I say paint it
But take alot of pictures,to show how straight it was before the new paint!!
Looks like he has done a good job!!
But i would worry about the rust coming back through the paint
rust never dies!!

It's been in the paint shop for a long time, lots of rust repair was done to it as well. But I agree, Rust is a friend for life.

Damn shame is right!!! I would give a vital part of my anatomy for a barndoor Kombi with that kind of patina!!! You never know whats going on under a repaint (bondo, crappy rust repair, etc.), but with OG paint you know exactly what you're getting. I would pay more for an original paint bus than a repaint in most cases. And don't you know the rat look is in!!!
