I've never owned Weber IDFs, but I know that the Dellorto out flow the Weber.
Dell 36DLRA flow about as much as Weber 40IDF
Dell 40DLRA flow aobut as much as Weber 44IDF
And so on. |

I'm partial to Webers, just because they're simpler to take apart to clean, and the idle jets are easy to get to IN A BUGGY (side).
But, Dellortos are supposed to outflow, and have top jets so they're much easier to get to in a sedan.
In duals, I've ran Weber 40's and 44's. In Dells I've ran 34's, 36's, and 45's.
The Dellorto seems to be a better built carb though Parts are a little harder to come by.[/img] |

I've run both DRLAs and IDFs and like the DRLAs much better.
Top mounted idle jets are always easier to access. |

Unless it's in a dune buggy, where the IDF's idles are right there on the side and you don't have to take the aircleaners off to get to 'em as you would DRLA's. Not much room above the carbs in a Manx-type buggy. |

For sedans I'd say Dells are great. Since both Idle and Mains are accesible from the top its a breeze to jet quickly.
BUT if you have "weber windows" which a square access hole is cut on the side of the engine compartment to access the side of the carb. The webers will be easy to jet the idle cct. After the idle jetting is complete put a side panel to cover the "window" to prevent dirt from going in the engine compartment. Otherwise its takes a contortionist to access the idle jet while the carbs are in the car.
The reason dells flow more with relation to the aprox throttle plate size of the weber IDF vs. Dellorto DRLA is that the dells were usually equipped with larger venturi sizes out of the box. for example 44 IDF's have 36mm vents and the 45 dells I recall having 38mm vents.
I personally prefer Dells but the 48 Weber IDA's have both idle and jet stacks accessible from the topside. |

The overall quality of the Dells have been better than the Webers I've had. Fit, finish, etc. The DRLAs I have are very nice. |

The DRLAs can take a turbo with no mods, the Webers need to have expensive mods done to them to work with a turbo (blow thru application).
One drawback is that the DRLAs parts are more expensive and not as easy to get. |

i ran drla 40's for over 120k, great carbs, but they have been out of production for quite awhile... are idf's still being manufactured? be careful of dirt clogging with webers. |
