View original topic: Are Bosch W8AC Plugs Extinct? Page: 1, 2  Next

Local supply here in Canada seems to be drying up with the WR8AC being substituted. I'm not a fan of 'R' or resistor plugs as I've chased problems with them in the past. The NGK cross keeps coming back as a 'R' plug too.

Are we going to have to change over to higher output ignitions to run these or have I just had a bunch of Bad plugs?

Is the resistor there just to suppress ignition noise so your stereo is cleaner or is there some other function?

i think they have discontinued the bosch plugs for our cars. i just cleaned, checked the gap, and threw mine back in.
don't know what a good replacement plug would be, im interested also.

Just get NGK B5HS, they will work just fine.

I've managed to locate some of the Bosch plugs thru an industry contact.

I'll be trying some of the NGK's when this source dries up.

I was wondering if Bosch W8AC availability is a local issue or a global thing???

NGK BP6HS has worked well for me for the last 29 years.

Not sure about the W8AC plugs, but the WR8AC plugs should still be readily available. Bosch has introduced this new metal into the mix called Yttrium (whatever the hell that is), and now labeled the plugs "Super Plus". They also have some new BS numbering system. A WR8AC is now crossed over as a #7902. The shop I work at uses the counterpart to the WR8BC, which is a #7903. The #7903 has a protruded electrode that the shop owner feels burns better. I think the resistor plugs have replaced the non-resistor ones. If you need/want the non-resistor ones go with the NGK B5HS (new #4210) Glenn mentioned, or a BP5HS (#4111) for the protruded electrode.

Autozone has them listed on their web site, but they're special order. You should be able to get them within a day, or two. Advance doesn't have a listing on their site, but I would imagine they could get them within a couple of days also. Look for them using NGK's new numbering system as #4210

Sparkplugs.com shows the w8ac as being obsolete too,and I agree NGKs from Napa, they stock all the weird shit.

Try Carquest; they bought WorldPac some years ago & usually have decent foreign car parts...

First digit indicates thread size.
ie: 14mm is B.
12mm could be D, DC or J.

Length is the 'E' or 'H' digit which indicates "3/4" or "1/2".
