Transporter/Type 2 Model Numbers
1950 - 1955 | 1955 - 1967 | Special Order Models | 1968 - 1979 | Brazilian Models

Transporter models are indicated with a 2 digit code. Until January, 1959, the transporter model was prefixed by a 2, for example, 2/23 would be a Kombi.
A third digit is used to specify variations on a basic model. A 4th digit, if present, indicates paint finish, where:

All Brazilian Deluxes: With: 2-tone paint and deluxe-trim Without: Dash clock, sunroof/roof windows, and rocker moldings Various special models, especially for the Police, have their own model type number extensions, e.g. for: Police funeral / prisoners / survey / technical control cars Some model type numbers comprise both models 1500 (split screen / T1 / until model 1975) and 1600 (bay window front from Oct 1975/model 1976) Versions with differential are Split/T1 only
