I'd steer clear of this shop who did the rebuild on this one

LOL, yeah, what a wonderful job installing those under-cylinder air deflectors!

And... um, are those 1600 pushrod tubes squashed down to 1200 size?

Fortunately for you he's in Oregon and you're in Southern California, and he doesn't deliver. So as long as you don't go up there you shouldn't have an opportunity to accidentally buy it.

All because the state of Oregon has a welfare system aided by grass sales. Plan on seeing more genius hubcap-hocking non-growers like Juan from there.

Maybe the seller wants to see the face of the idiot that actually pays $125 for a poor reproduction hub cap

I was thinking it was some sort of code to buy some of his home grown.

What are people thinking?
$100 for this? http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1497019

I can and did buy brand new OEM for $40 here http://www2.cip1.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=VWC%2D113%2D853%2D687

$75 for the same $36 crappy sheet metal?

I just don't get it! I get madder and madder at the prices people post for their crap. Can't wait for the next local show for real deals.

hitest Tue Jun 02, 2015 9:11 am

You're hitting on the head- the great deals are at local shows and swaps.

However, there are few here who would argue that an excellent original German part should cost less than a repop. $100 is silly- but higher than repop price is not at all.

This is a bad example because this seller is really high on pretty much everything he is selling - check his other ads for examples.

jays58s Tue Jun 02, 2015 2:47 pm

I want to know why people respond to your wanted ad if they aren't even 100% sure they have what you're looking for? I guess the "maybe I should make sure I have it before I email someone" concept doesn't apply to everyone? Lol

Wouldn't you think he would at least clean the burnt paint chips off if not sand it a little? He must be really detached from this car.

It would be interesting to see a before photo of the new motor.

I don't know, though...after spending that much money on it only to have it burn up in such a short amount of time, I could totally understand why he'd want to just kick it to the curb and be done with it. Would be soooo discouraging.

I'd probably try to salvage what I could, and at worst part it out for as much as possible, but I can also easily imagine just wanting to turn my back on it and be done with it.

That "excellent" interior must add about 5 or 6 K to the price
