Hi
I have a 1972 KG convertible - I'm stumped as to what this part is for... not connected to anything at the moment. In the engine bay, connected to the rear wall to the left of the left hand side hinge.. trying to attach photo - the cable is not associated with it (just runs underneath). Any thoughts?

| one tube goes to intake manifold left side, othe tube goes to carb. not sure which port. I believe it is an altitude compensator but don't quote me. Don't think too many use it. (people ) |

no idea how it works. I believe there is a vacuum pot that mounts to back of carb that is part of it. vacuum acts on diaphram which moves a lever connected to accelerator lever. I took it off mine years ago. Maybe some of the more knowledgeable will chime in. go to my pics, there is a picture of it.https://www.thesamba.com/vw/gallery/pix/784450.jpg |

Altitude adjuster. It was part of the emissions system. There is a flathead screw on the one end of it. You adjusted it with that...
Unless you are running the entire set-up with the idle controller, it is pointless. I find that the mount its attached to is a good spot to mount the rear defrost relay. |

70 140 is right that it is worthless without the corresponding part that mounts onto the front of the carb -- and 9 out of 10 don't work.
If you have both parts and a 34 pict 3 it is worth using -- it helps to get rid of some of the 34 pict's flaws, especially in stop and start traffic. Even if you have a good SVDA the 34 pict isn't great off of idle. The throttle positioner / Altitude adjuster keeps the idle high for a few moments after you stop the car so you can get going quickly without stomping on the gas.
Results in smoother starts from stop signs and better performance in bumper to bumper traffic. The dash pot does the same thing. |

| Oh, and, if you restore the system the bentley has the adjustment procedure. |
