Who can tell me the correct location for a dual mount antenna on a '62 bug?
Is it drivers side or pass side is it straight up and down perfectly vertical or at a slight angle form perfectly vertical to sort of match the door-to-body seam on the 1/4 panel? Who can help me out-I am a vintage nazi |

antennas where a dealership option which meant you got it where ever billy bob in service wanted to put it. i'm sure that there was suppose to be a vw standard but i've never heard it. |

bringing this back from the dead, I just got a dual post for ym car, and I too am curious as Ive seen them on both sides and both vertical and angled positions, curious if either os correct, or if it is as mentioned, "wherever the installer decided to drill holes" thanks guys! _________________ 1972 Karmenn Ghis - DASRUST

Youve got to look at as many examples as you can find and try to copy the location that looks best to ya.
As mentioned it was the dealer's discretion, some had more esthetic abilities than others.
For me, I like the look of RIGHT side,
mounting holes just below the level of the top door hinge,
with a LITTLE back angle but not as much as the angle of the door angle if you know what I mean.
Here's an example of what I think looks nice; Thanks to the member who posted this pic in the gallery:
(yes I reversed the pic to show it on the right side.)

My '62 had the radio and antenna installed at the dealership (single post, almost straight up, on the pass. side). As stated before, I think location and antenna style simply depended on when and where it was installed. I personally like the double mount style mounted on the pass. side, too. _________________ "sometimes i wish you could kick people through the internet..." |

The radio antenna was only put at an angle for cars with AM/FM radios, as it had to be able to pick up the frequency modulated signals, which flow horizontally. Standard AM's just had it straight up for amplitude modulated signals, which flow vertically. _________________ 1965 Deluxe Beetle "Camilla"

The picture typifies a good angle on a two-post install, but the posts are too close to eachother. the lower one needs to be brought down to use the antenna's design to combat leverage at speed (they look bent from force). I always say the lower the antenna the better on those two posters- but many a dealer was too lazy to reach down into the cavity behind the wheelwell to install properly... _________________

There is some misinformation about this. Unfortunately, it was mine! (See below.) _________________ Trying to diagnose electrical problems without paying attention to what the red light is telling you is like trying to play the piano without using your hands.

Well, guess what! He was right and I was wrong.
The FM radio service wasoriginally horizontally polarized. I'd forgotten about that.
Sorry about that. _________________ Trying to diagnose electrical problems without paying attention to what the red light is telling you is like trying to play the piano without using your hands. |

No prob. It seemed logical to me as well. It's at least nice to have members with good knowledge. _________________ 1965 Deluxe Beetle "Camilla"
