Hey all, just looking for some info on carburetor balance tubes. I have a set of Solex PDSIT 32s but I'm missing the balance tube. The manifolds are dual port and the spigots for the tube are 8mm but the bracket (which also supports the aircleaner) the tube runs through is much larger, say 14mm. Now for the Q&A... Is there supposed to be a grommet in the bracket? Whats the ID and the OD of the tube supposed to be (approx.)? What happens if the tube is larger/smaller/eliminated?

thanks for playing!

Should be a piece of rubber around the tube where it goes through the center bracket.
I made my balance pipe when I did my conversion to dual port from some 5/16" gas line from the local parts store.

You can kinda see it in that picture.

The 64-66 balance tube for the single port engines is larger:

They retained the same center bracket for '67, which used a smaller balance tube, so a bushing was used to make up the space.

If anyone needs a 64-66 big balance tube, I have some for sale.

What happens if one usd a smaller diameter tube for SP? Is there a change in performance?

Assuming you could get the tubing to make it work, I think it would just be harder to balance the carburetors correctly? I don't know what would happen when driving.

Digging up an old thread.......

I was adjusting the carbs on my Square yesterday and noticed no balance tube (I'll fix that) but 2 spigots coming oiut of each manifold for a total of 4 spigots.

2 balance tubes or what??

Aside from the typical #3 acting funny at idle everyhing else is smooth.
