It's time to detail interior bits.

I have asket this in many places, but now i really need info.

What is right color code to steering wheel? gearstick? seat frames?

Somebody said it is L567. Any other ideas?

From June '49 through 1953 the steering column & shifter was Beige.

1950-Oct '52 the steering wheel was Ivory

Info was obtained in the Bob Wilson 1949-59 VW Beetle Authenticity Series book.

Pg 73 of Wilson's book points out that in '52 the steering wheel on the deluxe and cabriolet changed color to grey beige and stayed gray beige through 1953. That corresponds to the steering column color as well. In '54 and '55 the steering wheel was once again ivory. My '53 is all grey beige inside and original paint. This includes the emergency brake lever, shift lever, and seat rails. Wink

My split is an early 51 it follows all the 1950 body styles no hood badge or door pins and all the other 50 and down stuff. The interior paint is all original (besides the glove box doors, I added those) as you can see the seats, shifter, e-brake, steering column, steering wheel are all a light brown mocha color. Even the rims were painted the same color and were one tone. I have seen a bunch of other splits with this same steering column, shifter color inside that were not brown for the main body color. I know of a beige body color 52 split that also come with the light brown steering column, shifter and so on.

Yeah, depending on exterior color, you would get either the brown, or the ivory.

My late 51 sand split has the brown shifter, column, steering wheel, etc. I THINK they would also have the brown floormats, etc.

Now my azure blue split had ivory and black mats. As you can imagine, brown and blue don't mix.

Since all the 1950-52 cars I've seen also have that dark Brown color, it would be safe to assume:
1) That the Beige described in the Bob Wilson book is actually Brown, and not the Beige color (Tan-ish) we are accustomed to.

and/or

2) The Bob Wilson book has a few anomalies/mistakes in it.

Just wanted to say that my collegue Doodah is aware of the fact that they should be beige/brownish he just wanted some confirmation of an exact colourcode. I guess there might be several other DIY restorers too that would have an idea of this too. Smile

Just like we had the discussion earler about the dash ivory/almond colour about a month ago. That kind of info is worth a lot for DIY people. Wink

Thank you.

So, Does anyone know the color code for this brown paint. My car was black with this brown, but I painted the seat frames another color and am now thinking of going back. If anyone knows this color code or where I can pick up this paint i would appriciate it.

thanks
Josh

Hey I did some home work, maybe not enough and looked there. I used their stuff on my last car. The only thing is they only list colors and don't show the paint colors. I think I spoke to them way in the past and the beige they sell is actually beige and not brown. Non of the dates for the colors match my cars date either.

Thanks though
Josh

I think the seatframes, steeringwheel, handbrake etc. might be L71 Beige.
See paint chip codes below. Also the dashpod ivory might be L62.

So who sells this correct paint (L71 Beige) for the 1950 seat frames and shifter, steering column and steering wheel? The guy in Argentina does but will not ship to USA? Wolfsburg West? I tried to find it and could not?
