WOW, Here is something I made two weeks ago. It worked until I took it apart to shorten the cable a little more. At that time part of the bolt broke off. I hadn't gotten around to making try two which was going to use a little larger bolt. Anyways thanks for saving me the hastle.
It's amazing that three people here are thinking almost the exact same thing.

I like the concept but I would be afraid it would fail because of it's Chinese lineage. In other words if it came from China I wouldn't trust it. _________________ Jerry...

What's wrong with the ones sold at VW shops?
A guy I know made his own in a lathe, but it was basically a threaded portion that stuck through the clutch arm. The other end was just a barrel bored for the cable to slide into. He had two small allen set screws on the side to hold the cable. Said he never had problems with it slipping out :dunno: _________________ "In any racing engine, the nearer you are to it disintegrating, the better it's performance will be"

Other than they cut the cable and look like dodo nothing.
Oh yea I just got back from Harbor Freight, but I bought this one instead. It appears to be pretty nice and fits the cable well.

I used a 5/16 bolt that I drilled and pressed using a 30 ton press.
Very clean. It was a little tricky to get the bigger sized bolt through the tubes.

Be sure to keep us updated if you have any issues with the "adjuster". It sure looks good. _________________ Jerry...

We are working on a line of pre shortened brake and clutch cables. I could use some help with measurements. I have a few test units out there but we found some irregularities. If anyone is so inclined I need measurements from the back of the tranny cone to the back of the E-brake handle stantion and to the center of the pedal assembly hole. The VIN off the chassis and what Bowden bracket you have. Thin or thick. currently we are using standard ends for the application. The finished product will have OE style ends I cannot have them made until I work out the details because I have to have them made in large lots. _________________ Google this.

Hey Tom, I'd be interested in 2 E-brake cables and the clutch cable. Chassis shortened exactly 12 inches, thanks. _________________ 1963 Ragtop Bug

I need the info. I already have first run test pieces out there. We are in stage two of R&D. I need to compile this info to standardize the product. I will give anyone that helps the parts at cost as soon as they are ready. Based on the rest of our stuff and the time it takes to develop, It could take a little while to work out every thing. Like the tops. Please dont ask about the tops. They will be ready soon. I am still waiting for one stupid part from the manufacturer. _________________ Google this.

Tom, I would think that shortening them 14 1/4" or 14 1/2" whatever the official chassis shortening measurement is would be the correct length. Of course then you would have to contend with those with other buggies like Empi 12"? I guess what I am saying is that however much the chassis is shortened is how much shorter the cables should be.
Now the Berrien is a different story and may all be somewhat different. I had to shorten my bowden tube to make it all work out.
Good Idea Murzi, I will wait until I get another/spare adjuster wing nut to experiment. I'm not sure that the hole isn't too big for the correct size Helicoil, but I'm sure something out there will work.
I know Low Cash has the shortened clutch cables, but the way they are shortened won't work on my chassis. When the clutch pedal is all the way up the cable end contacts the front of the tube. I think the mounting bracket is too close on mine to cut some off. However I have a friend with a Berrien chassis also and he uses one. |

One would think that but like the carpets there are different cables for each year. I need to make sure everything is right before I can sell a product. Why don't you try the flat bowden bracket on the tranny? _________________ Google this.
