Does anyone know the max cfm of a type one upright cooling fan. lets say a dual port 1600 stock. |

It depends on how it is installed. But a late model wide fan installed in a doghouse shroud installed in a motor outside of the car body at about 3500 RPM it is in the 1500 CFM range.
If you do a google search and spend some time, there are some studies about it. |

there was also a massive argument on whether or not CFM directly controlls cooling or not.
search samba for it.... it was a few months ago.
and btw, CFM is NOT everything. its all about the flow _________________ AKA Chris™

CFM is flow.
What becomes critical is what the CFM is when trying to push past the restirction of the cooling fins. That's why electric fans look good on paper but bite the big one in real life.
A cooling fan also needs to produce plenty of pressure to force all that air past the cooling fins. _________________ Eric Allred
