I may have just Wasted $4,000.00 dollars! Called the local tag agency here in Florida today and they said they can't title dunebuggy's anymore! Then directed me to the regional inspection center. The guy there said he had never seen a dunebuggy come through the inspection center and to hold. We he came back, he stated that his boss said that they WILL NOT title a dune buggy anymore. WTF. I have no local places to ride and i'm starting to feel rather sick!!! I can't aford such a big loss. I need a good solution. Titling as a VW is not a good option as I have a home that I could lose it if insurance didn't pay for an accident. There must be a way???? Please help!

So the buggy you bought had no title to begin with? And now you are trying to get a title created?
If the previous owner had it titled can he file for lost title? or was this just built from the ground up and now you cant get a title.
I dont know much about this so sorry if I am not much help is getting the vehicle titled in another state an option? |

I don't know I just read that it is a 3rd degree felony! if i'm reading the thing right....
Any Florida Members here? Have you recently gone through this process? I'm finding it hard to believe that you can title home built Choppers, Trikes, and Cars, But there is some special rule against Dune buggys? How can that be? There is nothing I can find in the state statues about this. Are they allowed to just make up these rules? Something smells fishy, but if even the regional office says thats the case, who the hell do I turn too? I'm way over my head here, And my wife's going to kill me!!!
Btw. I was suprized to hear about this State inspection center! I didn't even know we still had them, and the kicker is that it over 60 miles away. I had read that in Florida, a cop did the inspection? Did this just change? Even if they allowed titling it, I bet an "Official State Inspection" Would NEVER be passed by a rail buggy!

Do mean they will not register it or you dont have a title and you cant register it because you dont have a title?
Most states have a kit car or specially constructed vehicle type of registration. |

All I have is a bill of sale. They stated that Kit cars are fine, but they won't title custom built dunebuggy's. They didn't have any explanation. |

But post a picture of what you are trying to register.
Has it ever been titled anywhere??
I heard a few years back......you can send money and paper to someone in Maine or Maryland? and they will issue new paper (how legal ??) |

You bought a car without a title? Is it even legal to sell or buy a car without the title?
That would be hard to register in any state.
Just look for a pan. |

Cant you just register (if you have a title) it as an off road vehicle, like a green sticker in California?
Have you seen this page?
http://www.hsmv.state.fl.us/html/titlinf.html
It has a PDF of how to register off highway vehicles. |

Also, what about a title specialist. Here we have companies that do the whole DMV thing for you, some seem to be a bit shady but as long as they get it titled for you who cares how they do it.And if yo have any problems down the road they are responsible. |

Also, In california we have this thing that if a vehicle is on someones property A certain amount of time it becomes the property owners vehicle, I am not sure if that is exactly how it works but Florida might have something like that and that would give you a title. |

Im confused, it says "Other types of off road vehicles such as swamp buggies or dune buggies do not qualify under this requirement"
under what requireement?
That page looks like it is referring to Motorcycles and ATV`s.
Call up the Florida DMV and simply ask them. "How do I register my buggy" |

I did. They said YOU CAN'T!
The issue becomes "What is a dune buggy?"
I'd say that with normal street tires my vehicle is a street rod. The problem is that It must be inspected at a State Inspection center, And the inspector could easily say nope, it's a dune buggy. This is after spending a great deal of time and money converting it to street use, and renting a trailer, and hauling it 70 miles across the state. I'm thinking i will call it neither a rod or a buggy but rather a VW beetle!!!!!
I'd be home free if it was cop inspected like other states. It' the poindexter with his little book that's going to doom me.
I surely can't be the first person here with this problem? It seems this law took effect in 2002? |

That`s rediculous.
There has got to be a way to register a sand rail or buggy in Florida.
PM other samba members that have sandrails in Florida. |
