Any recommendations of what transmission oil to use in a bus tranny?

I have been recommended 90 weight hypoid oil from a reputable source but all I could find at a local auto store is a valvoline 80W-90 high performance gear oil.

My source said that was OK, and I trust his word. Any word of advice? What exactly is "hypnoid gear oil"?

Also, the transmission case takes (if dry) 6.3 pints and reduction boxes .5 pints each. After filling and driving for a few miles, refill center transmission till the oil spill over. Right?

Thanks and look forward to being back on the road!

Sta-Lube GL4 available at NAPA. I believe its 85W-90. Its in a white and turquoise jug. Its about 12-13 bucks a gallon. Fill the boxes, then fill the center section. Drive for a little bit and re-check the center section. Fill it till it starts dribbling out the fill hole on level ground.

Other bottles will say GL5, GL4, etc "compatible". Don't get the one that says anything about GL5 on it.

I just picked up GL-4 Sta-Lube gear oil from Napa. It's the correct old school stuff. Not cheap, either. I could have filled it with synthetic for that money.
