Has anyone come across new early pop-out frames, just the frame, I have everything else.
Thanks.

Contact BFY Obsolete, they sell used kit as well as new reproduction units. You may be able to purchase just the frames from them if you sweet talk them.

Wolfsburg West carries the frames for about $75/ea They say they're NOS, but there are no previsions (holes) for the rivets on the rear latch Confused

EIS parts has the complete kits too, maybe you can talk them out of some frames if BFY won't cooperate... http://eisparts.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?page=EIS/PROD/W/113898400A

Along a similar line of thinking, can you get replacement glass for these windows from the same place? I'm looking for a passenger's side popout, and sometimes I come across someone selling a bare frame.

Hey, I'd like to put pop outs in my '57. It didn't have them when I bought it and I don't know if all the cars were set up for them from the factory, or no? I really don't want to buy a set and then discover they can't be installed. Anyone know for sure? Thanks, Mel.

Your 57 won't be predrilled for the hinge and latch holes but it is obvious where to drill once the window (with seal) has been pressed into the opening.

On the topic of early frames, what years to they change?

RareAir has the smooth aluminum (?) frames which look GREAT! But what year did that style end and get replaced with the ones used through '64? I would like to put the proper ones into my '56 if I can find a pair.

1950-52 smooth frame, no seal ($4000+)
1953-55 smooth frame, w/ seal ($4000+)
1956-64 ribbed frame ($200-$300)
1965-76 ribbed frame ($25-100)

What sucks about the popouts when used on 1956-57 Beetles, is that the Sekurit logos on the glass is small. Original glass on Pre '57 VWs have a large logo so they won't match 100%. Crying or Very sad But the 1950-52 & 1953-55 sets do have the large Sekurit logos Very Happy

I thought the last time we did this the verdict was that the ribbed version started in mid 1955?

(as the owner of a late April 55 obviously I have a huge financial interest in exactly when the change was made Very Happy )

It sounds like the '56-'64 popouts are just like the '65+ popouts except for the size difference. All the glass in my '56 has the large "duro-glass" logo except one qtr window which has small securit script and VW logo (likely a replacement at some point). So I wont really lose much over what I already have if I find the smaller window ribbed popouts. Thank goodness the proper ones are the "cheap" ones Smile ! Thanks for the info RareAir (I still think yours would look cool on my car but I aint forkin' over 4 large for windows - sheesh Shocked !)

Yep that was Nimai. $4k was the asking price. He had atleast two serious offers of $3k, but I believe he turned them down.
