Howdy. I have a 66 Baja that I am putting together for my wife. I bought her mirrors for both sides. The problem I am having is that the drivers side had a place to screw the mirror into and the passenger side does not. How do I make it so that it will instal. I assume I need the same screw set up from the drivers side. Can I just take one from another bug and once I have it do I have to take the door off to get it on. Thanks. Confused

You'll need an air hammer to remove you old hinge pin. Then replace it with a threaded hinge pin to accept the mirror. Part #111857514

You make it sound so easy. The hinge pin is a bitch to get off, even with an air hammer. I had to take my door off to get the hinge pin off. Good luck.

I've replaced 6-10 hinge pins in the last year. Never a problem as long as you've got the right tool.

Maybe those nice dry and rust free California Beetle hinges are easier to take apart. The last 2 I had done had to be heated up until they were glowing red with a torch. Only then would they come out.

So is there a special tool that can be used to remove the hinge fairly easy besides an air hammer which I do not have? and where and how much does it cost?

P.S. or is it easier to just get a new hinge with the correct pin already in it?

The hinge is actually riveted to the door itself. So that would be more difficult.

www.eastwood.com has a specialty tool made for this purpose (Part #31139) for only $24.99 But if your pin is seized inside the hinge, you'll need an impact hammer.

Save your money, that tool will not work on a bug hinge. I think there is a thread on that hinge pin remover somewhere.

I don't think so. They say in the add hollow hinge pins, and the vw hinge pins are definately not hollow.
