This is the correct position for the rails in neutral. Just put the hockey stick in between and slide the nosecone on:
This is WRONG:
Under no normal circumstances should it look like this, with a rod out of neutral position(here the middle rod out indicates the trans is in second gear) without the hockey stick being between the forks on that rod. If it were installed like this, the shifter in the car would be jammed and would not move. _________________ Two wrongs don't make a right...

The dimple for the set screw on the hocky stick should be straight up. Disconnect the rear coupler and try moving the hockey stick in and out and rotating it. It should only freely move in and out a tiny amount and you should only be able to rotate it about 20 degrees in neutral, much less if in gear. If at some points it rotates more or in and out more than 1/4 inch, the hockey stick isn't engaged with the shift rods. You'll have to pull the nosecone again to reset it.
Also, if you remove the shifter and manually shift it at the rear coupler, can you get it into neutral and all gears? If not, again the hockey stick isn't engaged properly and you have to pull the nosecone. |

| So I pulled the coupler off and got it neutral, and the dimple is centered and can push/pull and rotate it. I used vice grips and believe I was able to get it in all gears. So I shouldn't have to pull nose cone right? I guess its way out of alignment at the shifter. I have plate installed correctly, is there any tricks to lining this thing up? Thanks for all the help! |

You could make sure it's in those gears too before hooking the coupler back up. Just start it and let the clutch out.
I've read that the correct way to adjust the shifter is to bolt it up semi-tight and then put it all the way in to first gear firm enough that it will move the plate, if it's going to, and then tighten it down and check that all is well. _________________ Two wrongs don't make a right...
