Hey-
I have a 1973 Super, and I think it's time to get going on those brakes. I just (like, hours ago) had the stock jack finally break on me, so I ran out and got one of those 2.5 ton floor jacks and a pair of jack stands. Then I got home a realized that I have no idea where to put the pressure of a floor jack to get it off the ground!
I would love to know if anyone has some good structurally sound jack points, preferably one in the front and one in the back. I assume that the beetle is jsut like any other car, and I can just stick the two stands under the axle once I get it up there?
Here is a link to a similar jack to the one I just bought, if anyone needs to look at it: http://shop.oreillyauto.com/ProductDetail.aspx?Mfr...yCode=3397
where would I jack the beetle up with this?
thanks!!! |

Glenn has posted that pic tirelessly for years! I keep a copy in my trunk for the mechanic when I get tires changed etc.

Awesome. Exactly what I've been looking for.
A bit confused that you've jacked it at points different to the diagram though...
I don't suppose anyone has images of where to jack the front do they ?
(sorry, like the OP - I need it all jargon free!) |

I'd also like to see a picture of where to put the floor jack in the front, but for a 69 Ghia. |

And for A super, The back is the same. I also yous my floor jack under the stock jacking point just go back as far on it as you can (if you do it at the end it well bend )... And for the front, If I'm just changing A wheel/tire I go to the front sway bar mount, I have also put the floor jack under the "A pillar" in front of the door, if your going to be putting it on jack stands then I'd jack it up on the pan head, and place the jack stands under the sway bar mounts.. |

Appreciate the info here, but just so I'm clear, would you place the jack stands under these points (rather than the rear axle), or just use these points to raise the car?

for the rear axle I used a trolley jack under the end torsion tube castings (there is a flat spot at the bottom) to lift each side of the car and then placed the stands under the tubes where shown in the picture.
for the front axle I used a chock of wood and lifted it from the center with the trolley jack , then placed the stands at its ends like shown in the picture _________________ cars:

I'd like to make sure I've interpreted Glenn's image correctly before I relax the jack on our 71 Super. If I'm reading the following chart correctly I've placed the jack stands under the track control arms: https://www.thesamba.com/vw/gallery/pix/663882.jpg
Once the weight is off the axle these arms drop down and it's tough to get the jack stand out very far from the center of the car.
Here's where I have the jack and have placed the jack stands:
...and a second view:
It just doesn't feel right, but this looks to me like where the red Xs are in Glenn's diagram. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer. |

You have a Super Beetle and the diagram is for a Standard Beetle with torsion bar beam.
Don't put them there. _________________ Glenn

Thanks, Glenn. I feel silly for missing "on Standard Beetle" written in large letters, but feel a little better that it somehow didn't feel right and I didn't release the jack.
Anyone have a suggestion of where I should put the jack and stands on the 71 Super?
