Hello from a first time poster..

1) I'm converting my '65 Bus to dual circuit master cylinder. Found a re-man master cylinder for a '67 Bus at a seemingly dirt cheap price of $37. Can the 67 MC be used and is the rod different or ??? I have seen postings that say the primary reason the '67 isn't used is the high cost.

2) If it's not feasible to use the '67 MC which early 70s MC should I get? The power assist is plentiful and roughly $60-$70 for reman ( yes I want an OEM but none to had in my area) BUT would the manual/standard MC be a better choice? Can't seem to find a manual cylinder for less than $200 but lots of power ones for $50-$75
Price isn't necessarily the defining criteria but efficient use of money is a part of the decision process. Biggest reason I want the 67 MC is because the I like the idea of split parts on my split BUS- pure ego on that! Thanks in advance guys!

You're going to get a lot of opinions on this but I'm for the '67. The rod is different in length or something and I think hazetguy posted pics but there's a way to make the rod. Sorry for the flakey reply but I've never done either conversion, only worked on already installed ones. Reason I say '67 is cuz you can still buy the OEM ones and the difference in dough doesn't seem that much more in the scheme of things. I don't know about the mounting bracket on pre '67 vs '67 so check that out too: one may be farther or closer to the pedal or somesuch fubar.

I did the conversion and the 67 master is the best way due to proper pressure and bore size, i went with ate brand and it was 168 dollars at my cost!!! 40 for the res. used and 20 for the correct pushrod. not cheap but most correct in my opinion, many use bay m/c but the bore is larger which i believe is a higher volume but lower pressure which i feel is more important. a lot has been written up and i studied the situation for some time before i laid down the cash. good luck.

It says that the picture doesn't necessarily match the part for sale. Yes it's a dual. Don't know 'zactly what issue its for but a lot of British cars use those Banjo style lines which are super trick. The wires just tells you if one or the other circuits had less pressure.

I have used the 71 and later MC and they work fine. I have 87 944 Porsche turbo front disks with 68 rear bug drums for the Porsche pattern. What I had to do is create a spacer which was around 1/2 inch or so. This gives the proper clearance for the push rod and you can reuse the 67 master cylinder or use one out of a early VW rabbit. You can buy the adapter for $50 bucks and master cylinder from Wolfgang so you don't have to make a spacer. I like it because there isn't much play on the pedal and it stops on a dime.

I use the 71-79. Stops and feels great. Here's the adapter kit from Cip1:

And anyone can make that adapter. You have space to adjust the push rod so all you need is to have the spacer you create close. $60 dollars for a piece of aluminum is a little to high if you ask me.

Well ,I picked up my $40 67 VW dual circuit master cylinder today- IT WAS AN A.T.E. rebuilt by Bendix! I immediately tried to order 15 more but they would not accept my order; not even for just 2 more. Guess since they took my prepaid order they felt obligated for the one . I'm trying other sources.https://www.thesamba.com/vw/gallery/pix/thumbnails/433455.jpg[img]

Was this from your local auto parts chain, or online, or what?
