They work great for a stock replacement. I've put together a few with Kadrons, 1.25 rockers and a 1 3/8" header, and they have held up well.
If I where considering performance upgrades beyond the few items listed, I'd go another route.

I've installed about a dozen of them in customers' cars. They run very smooth. No problems at all.Make sure you adjust the valves before firing it up. They are not adjusted from the factory. They also don't come with the distributor drive installed. I've got a new Mexi-longblock,still in the crate if anyone near Florida needs to pick one up. I won't ship it.

| I have one in my car which has been upgraded with a few things like ported CB 044 big valve heads, 94 mm cylinders and pistons, Gene Berg chromoly pushrods, valve adjusters and rigid rocker shafts, OEM VW 1.25 ratio rockers, Gene Berg sump, breather and Achiever pulley, SVDA dsitributor from Aircooled.net, dual 40 Dellortos, Tri-Mil dual tailpipe exhaust and 1-1/2" heater boxes with German doghouse fan and tin (including the Hoover bit) and thermostat/flap system retrofit. It performs well but from what I've heard the cranks are cast instead of forged like on German engines and I've also heard of a case in which the camshaft rivets failed (of course on the stock cam) at around 4,000 rpm's and took the whole engine with it. Of course for mild applications they'll work fine; there's been millions of those Mexican engines built with few failures on daily driver "Vochos" (as they call Bugs in Mexico). |

Over 60 sold/installed in the last 7 years, only 2 failures. These were the cam gear breaking at the thrust bearing. Highest mileage one I have records on is over 80k in a 21 window bus with a 3.88 r/p trans. Duel Kadrons and 1.25 ratio rockers. Daily L A driver now in Santa Cruz.
Best bang for the buck, CIP1 has the lowest price (I cannot compete against their price) _________________ Stocking distributor of "The Funky Green Panels"
