Is that a hose attachment point on the back of the shroud where the oil cooler sits behind? _________________ 1971 Super Beetle

Not speaking for Jake, but I don't think that was included in his tests.
And that is a round hose fitting for the outlet of the oil cooler air. It's perfect for a kit car. _________________ Glenn

I don't see any holes for mounting the flaps, but that can be solved. The rear dog house looks deeper than stock, so the linkage might need to be tweaked. _________________ Glenn

So you just need to drill a few holes then? This seems like an interesting option to the 181 shroud. _________________ 1971 Super Beetle

Probibly... like I said... you should be able to get some flaps in there. _________________ Glenn

The one pictured above from CB doesn't look like it has the holes for the screws to the flaps.
The "Low-Profile" (Puma) Doghouse Fanshroud w/ fresh air outlets that I have on my Ghia has provisions for the OEMs as well as the two other Puma shrouds I have up in the rafters. I am running thermostat and flaps on my engine.
I bought mine as a kit from SCS (Small Car Specialties - Anaheim, CA) back in 1985 and at that time CB Performance (Claude Buggies back then) too also sold them.
You can see on left of the fresh air hose is the screw for the flaps as well as under you can see a partial cutout of the cylinder tin where the flaps swivel.

Yes, that is an hose attachment. I used one of those paper cardboard type fresh air hose connect to that oil cooler outlet and route mine to exit under the engine. _________________ Jim Kikuchi

I did not test the shroud in question... At that time I could not find one. _________________ Jake Raby

I have tested it and it is the best factory fan shroud you can get other then the DTM I had one on my buddy street car which made 185HP and 173TQ at the real wheel's never had a over heating issue. The best part about the shroud is the 2" exhaust tube for the oil cooler plus the unit is one piece not two like the other oem shround's.

How did you fix the front tin where the hose from the cooler exits? Did you wels or pop rivit a piece of metal to seal around the hose? (stock rectangle exit, Puma round..)

Steve, the front tin where the oil cooler exits also has the round hole in which as rubber hose is in conjunction between the two.
I can take a picture of one of the other Puma shroud and front tin that I have and post it here. _________________ Jim Kikuchi

Routing the oil cooler outlet hose into the heater channel would be slick for easy winter heat. |
