Hi,
I am currently rebuilding my 1585cc single port engine. I am going to convert it to a 1776cc dual port engine. During disassembly I noticed the case to be dull.
I decided to sandpaper the case for a natural smooth alloy look.
Motor out:
This is how the case looks:
A little sandpaper:
It will take some time but it will finish with a smooth surface. _________________ 1970 Beetle Turbo 2109cc MS II EFI, W/M Injection, Intercooler, FORD Wasted Spark Coilpack, 48lb. Injectors. |

When you polish the case you close the pours and reduce the surface area.
In other words the engine will run hotter. _________________ Glenn

Thanks Glenn,
Do you know of a product I can use to at least make it look better? _________________ 1970 Beetle Turbo 2109cc MS II EFI, W/M Injection, Intercooler, FORD Wasted Spark Coilpack, 48lb. Injectors. |

A wire wheel could clean off the gunk while leaving the outside surface rough. _________________ 1974 Thing -- under the knife

Triple 000 or higher steel wool always does the trick. _________________ Be kind to all critters. America's "H8TERZ" can drink sludgy used Motor Oil!

That's aluminum and the Type 1 case is magnesium. It will start to darken in days. _________________ Glenn

I'd spend my time and effort on cleaning/painting everything above the case. Just a thorough cleaning makes a huge difference. If you paint the tin, fan shroud, intake, etc. it will look really nice. _________________ Designed for four soldiers and a machine gun...also for family use.
