Help! I pulled my first engine & I have it all apart so I would like to dress it up! Should I paint the engine case & the heads? Ive heard pros & cons. If I should would you recommend matching the engine to my car color. If you recomend not to paint is there anything out there that will make the aluminum shine. What type of paint should I use? Primer? PS 1978 Vert. |

I wouldn't paint the heads or the case. In fact, don't even polish the case! Its rough surface lets it cool better than a smooth surface would. _________________ 1974 Thing -- under the knife

A THIN coat of hi-temp flat black paint (such as BBQ grill paint) on the cylinder barrels and heads will help the eninge to dissapate heat better. I saw an article somewhere where painting these parts lowered temps by like 20 degrees. |

Cylinders are OK, but not the head or case.
