I have to give props to Alex and the guys at ISP West for hooking up my Aussy Notch with popouts.

I've had the pop outs for awhile but never put them in. After the Classic I was storing my Notch with Alex for a week so I ask him if he could do some new rubbers on the pop outs and put them in. When he told me about the "no pop out provisions" on Aussy cars I figured I was screwed but he said they had a trick and could get it done.

Rear window out, headliner pulled back, rear seat out, 1/4 panels out, some welding, and nothing looks different at all except I now have pop outs. OG paint is untouched.

Giving suport to the C pillar so you can screw the brackets on. The thin sheet metal will not hold for long. If there is a trick with the B pillar Im not aware of it. But I sure its along the lines of putting those tangs in some how(maybe).

you must demonstrate an equivalent of a type 3 black belt to pull this off... Razz

no really, in simple forum terms, ill try my best to explain

this is easier to do on a car that is under restoration as you can cut & grid with no issues, on this one... modifications must be hidden...

their is a bracket with the two tangs on them, you need to cut the pillars off another car or source these from a donor... drill out the four welds that hold each bracket to the post...

back to the car, with the panels off, line up the bracket, mark & drill the 4 holes on the post that you will plug weld to hold the bracket inside the post once the bracket is in place

enlarge the hole near the trunk release cable, fish the donor bracket up the post, get it in place and plug weld it into the post... your half way done with one side...

still with me? OK get a thin piece of harden steel, drill and tap the pop out latch screw pattern to it, install the pop out to measure where the latch wants to naturally screw onto the rear pillar, tack weld your flat thin bracket in place where the latch will mount

( technically / originally this should be a floating plate that is inside the rear pillar, but this is such a nice car we did not want to hack into it too much )

rinse and repeat on the other side.... other then you will have to make a mirror of the hole where the release cable is on the opposite side... as all trunk release on notchback / fastback are on the left... squareback is the same process with holes made on both sides...

this is the same proceess for late cars that come without pop outs also...

here are some photos...

This is the most informative thing I have seen yet. Meeelleeons of words are the pics. Nice to see what the insert looks like. Thanks for digging this one up. I don't know how I missed it.

Being short a welder.....sorry to be repetive, but could rivets hold this until you got to a welder? I don't see why not, if it's temporary and the rivets are flat enough. Or would they interfere? I could be the guinea pig.
