Does anyone know what's involved in installing the front windshield as a safari window? Somebody in the classifieds is selling an oval with one so I'm curious. |

not completely sure what's involved in window, but it seems like i remember the safari kits coming from overseas, it's been awhile. I always thought it would be cool, but i would check really well for a good seal, if you're just cruising on weekends maybe fine, but if driven daily, could be water problems, most safari's are. |

Yeah it's not for a daily driver but I thought it would be a cool touch for my 65' considering how sweet they look on the splitty buses. |

I saw that ad also. I'm in the process of restoring a 58 bug. I'm also going to be fabricating front and rear safaris for the bug. I'm shooting for the whole thing to be finished before mid summer. I've already designed the hinges and I'm working on the seal problem now...
I'll keep everyone posted when it's finished.. |

Holy shit! $600 USD for a safari window on a bug? Before overseas shipping?
Who's developing on this side of the pond, 'cause you could make money just undercutting that price by a hundred. _________________ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I emailed them to inquire whether they have a US distributor and, if not, is there a possible discount for bulk orders.
We'll see.
Does seem rather pricey for a frame, hinges, and rubber. I could see it if there was a new windscreen involved. _________________ 71 SB

The response I got was strange:
"Due to lack of demand, we are no longer in business."
Guess that says it all, but it's weird to have a running website and someone is responding to email. They must have another business related to that.
Oh well, $600 was too much for a stick on frame and a rubber seal and 2 hinges. Maybe that had something to do with the lack of demand? _________________ 71 SB

The guy Dave is in our Vee-Dub club. He is not running the business anymore as far as I know and he has requested the webmaster pull the website off. As for monitoring the emails they do that so as not to mess people about. I have seen the quality of this guys work and it is second to none. Whilst you may grimace at the price these were not just cobbled together things, they were stainless framed and when shut were 100% watertight. I will mention to him if people here are serious about wanting some and maybe they could be UPS'ed together to helf save on shipping costs. |

Do a search on www.volksrods.com
They've posted some good pics and different ideas on making it. |
