I searched around and couldn't find any info for where to mount seat belts in my '65 singlecab. There are not obvious mounting points. I know where to mount the outsides but the inner mounts have me stumped. I looked at a guy's 65 bus but the area behind the front seat and bench is different than in my singlecab. Anyone have any pictures they can share of the inner seatbelt mounts on a singlecab?
I'd really appreciate it. Thanks |

Hey Tom, when you've got a chance, I'd love to see some more pix. I want to put seatbelts in my new 55. It's the one modification I always make.
Nice thing about early buses is that it's very easy to completely hide the belts! _________________ Read the story of Vern as it unfolds |

| I think it was Lind who posted the official factory service bulletin on how to add seat belts. I have it in PDF but can't find it online anymore. If you want it PM me and I'll email it too you. Of course it's a lot of work, fabricating brackets, supports, and welding, but if you want to do it like VW would have this is it. For me I went with the would be factory locations, but admittedly didn't go all the way with the bracket fabrication, instead opting for 1/8" plates with welded nuts. |

I have a '65 SC and I was faced with a similar dilemma, but in my case there were holes already drilled in the floor behind the seat that were centered and may have been used for belts by a previous owner. I just used the holes that were there, and bolted through with a stout bolt.
In this pic you can see the orientation with the rear 2/3 seat pedestal in the upper right of the pic.
And here under the bus you can see I used some large washers which I ground flat on one side to make fit for reinforcement.

That's odd. It looks like it could be factory, but given all the nice shiny paint everywhere I'm guessing a custom job. Still, I think those mounting points are way too low. If the upper mount is anywhere below the level of your shoulder in an impact get ready for spinal compression. |

Not factory and very scary looking. Like you said, time for spinal compression. |

I installed 3-point retractable belts in my '55 Ford F-100 pickemup truck so it can be done but those there are just way too low! _________________ Some people are so busy being clever they don't have time enough to be wise. |

| You guys ever see the stock mounting points for the shoulder belt on a late Ghia? The mounts in that SC are sky-high in comparison. |

That does not necessarily make neither correct. _________________ Some people are so busy being clever they don't have time enough to be wise. |

I didn't say that it did. |

Don't early bug mounts go right over the top of the low-back seat? _________________ © CJ Industries, Inc.

NHRA rules for roll bars and roll cages require the upper seat belt mounts to be between shoulder height and 4" below shoulder. _________________ 1979 Type-2 Westfalia “Sandy”

I've also done a bit of research and it seems that the ideal upper mounting point is anywhere from 5 degrees below to 30 degrees above the driver's shoulder.

Thanks for all the replies guys! I did see the official technical bulletin before but I don't think I'm going to go that far. It would be the best though and would be more original, but my truck isn't all that original anyway. I think with the belts I have that KarmannBob's set up will probably work best for me anyway. Thanks for the pictures!
This is some good information I'm sure many could benefit from. |

I think I'll be doing just lap belts in the Deluxe myself. I've been driving my 66 EZ that way for about 18 years and (knock on wood) it's been fine so far.
My T34s all have 3 point belts though, but they only need one hole drilled in the floor to make that happen. _________________ Read the story of Vern as it unfolds |
