It's a 1970 bug. 3 pt. seats. As always, except for the wiring diagrams the haynes manual is totally useless. "Deflect longitudinal adjustment lever 11 degrees...." blah.

The seat I'm working on does in fact slide. (the other one doesn't. I'll get to that later.) It says to put it in the second fromn the backest position and then do sumtin with a compression tab from the front. What are they talking about? I see nothing. And it won't slide off.

Thanks.

LMAO
there is a metal tab on the side next to the tunnel on the 2 rail seats, press the down with a screw driver or something.

If the are the type with the center post and 2 rails, remove the reataining clip or bolt at the end of the center track, and there is a metal tab on the track that has to be pressed down and then slide the seat forward. It has been a while since I removed the 3 point seats, but I think that is correct. Gotta look for the tabs, I think it is on the center rail

Hey, just wait until you're trying to put them back on...always a treat, I assure you. Nothing like it to make you wish you had a prehensile tail...

No kidding 6v...been there! I discovered that my plastic rail cover was split in the front and it was preventing me from sliding the seat backwards. Like a dumbass I didn't bother to look until I had sweat half of my body weight. Getting the seats out was much easier!!! Rossmda is right, you have to find a friend to help you though. (unless you have freakishly long arms) One person sits in the back seat and kicks the back of the front seat while you get a screw driver and press down on the tab next to the tunnel and pull up on the seat slider lever. The seat should slide forward and off the seat rail.

70 should not have 3 point mount seats... unless someone already welded in replacement pans once and used the 73 and later style???

BTW... on the 3 point mount seats they need to be removed tword the rear of the car.
not forward like the earlier 2 track style. so the above posts are correct but not for the 3 point center hump type found on 73 and later.

Kiefernet,
Mine is a 71 and it removes from the front. I guess the 71 is different from the 70.

well ... 49-70 seat rails are the same 2 tracks with skinny rails

71 -72 are different ( but still only 2 tracks) due to the size of the rails and use the full length plastic sliders

73 later have the 3 point set-up

Maybe I did not word it clear... up to 72 with 2 runner tracks the seat comes out the fornt to come all the way off the tracks.

73 and later center hump/three point mount style the seat need to go to the REAR to come off of the center mount.

and every once in a while you run acros a car that someone has welded the wrong year pans in so it could be confusing...

Whoopsie...by three point seats I meant there is an eccentric knob with three positions on it. Yes, there are two skinny rails. Terminology error. I'll go try and get them off in a sec, the car just got back from the shop.

now that is a different monster then. Same thing sort of, lift the lever all the way up, and slide the seat forward. then there is a tab on the tunnel side to press down, and they should slide right out. I got pissed and removed that dumb ass tab on my old pans, but on the new ones, they didn't have it, so seat removal is easy

Nope mine is totally different. First off, the drivers side and passenger side aren't the same. The drivers side won't even slide, I'm still trying to figure that out.

The passenger's one had a tab sticking down on the outer rail (away from the tunnel). It hit the plate at the front and kept it place. So I hammered the plate out of the way. There's no other way to do it.

The driver's side isn't the same. I don't know how it works yet. Maybe once I get it moving it'll slide right off.

I think what you've got there is a broken release lever. I have one on the passenger side of my car. You kind of have to get in there with a screwdriver and pry the little plate that the lever would have moved out of mesh with the teeth so that it can slide forward. If you're lucky, you can get it to stick there long enough to slide the seat forward and off the tracks. If you already hammered (by which I assume you mean destroyed) the little tab, it's just a matter of brute force plus a little lubrication to get it to slide out.

On the driver's side, you have to look for the same thing. I'm sure, if the seat is frozen, that you'll find it. If not, and you've got rust (or Pepsi or grime or whatever) in there, you should douse the crack between the rails and the seat tracks with penetrating oil and let it sit for a while. I had a seat track frozen from rust, and I had to do this like 3 times over the period of about 5 days before I got it to move by pushing with my feet from the back seat (with the lever released, of course).

Have some patience, avoid the BFA (Brute Force Approach), and use your head, and you'll get it.
