Hey guys,
I have a used set of fenders on the front of my 61 rag that I am just about to get restoed. I just noticed yesterday that the holes on the tops of the front fenders are off from each other. The pass side has the holes closer to the front of the car while the drivers side is back more.
Where there changes throughout the years with this??
Please let me know,

the early fenders (58-63) have the round holes closer to the fender welting than 64-67.. what is location of horn grilles? can you only fit 2 finger width between welting and horn grille? pictures would help. _________________ Admin note: Bill Passed away - July, 2017

58 - early '64 turn signals are farther forward by almost a turn signal legnth. When the lights got bigger in around Sept of '63 for the '64 model year the got pushed back. I just bought a '62 that has a '65 L/F fender. The car is all done but this bothered me and with a little measuring I re-drilled the holes needed and moved the signal uo to where it belongs. The gasket hides the '65 holes and I sealed the holes to the gasket with RTV sealant. To be exact I'm actually still 10mm too far to the rear but had to to cover the holes.
If I ever do any body work to this car I'll weld up the '65 holes.
The original '62 right front fender measured 4-1/2" from the headlight edge to the edge of the turn signal gasket. _________________ Midwest Autosavers, Inc. Crystal Lake, IL |

Also, FYI - this is from a VW tech bulletin where it shows where the hole for the 58-63 type turn signal should be on the fender:

Yep I figured it out, the passenger fender is a 64 fender and the drivers is pre64. So there we go, just told the body guy to fix it by filling the holes and putting new ones in where they belong.
