Damn! That looks intimidating! Just a tad bulkier than a turbo though. _________________ --

That is one of if not THE best beetle I have seen.
I am thinking of fitting two chargers to a 2007 stroked motor for my split.
One on each intake manifold, they are the small AMR 500 japanesee ones.

Split 1, That sounds like a sick idea. One small charger for each cylinder and one blow thru carb feeding each head. D o you have pictures of these small blowers? |

Has anyone ever tried to put a Paxton or Vortech supercharge on a VW. Looks to me to be a simple add instead of a turbo. Just wondering what ya'll think. |

Hey mbugz, have you had any issues with the charger belt tensioner causing thrown belts? I have a buddy with a part time buggy shop, who has a customer with this issue. I told him to use a flat idler to pull the belt, vice push on it like the one in the kit. _________________ Build thread: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=212747

Shorrock C75BV Supercharger. Was an off the shelf bolt on kit offered by EMPI in the early 60s.

If it is lined up with the blower and crank pulley, it should stay on with no problem. I had to put spacers between the tensioner and the mounting bracket to get the correct alignment on mine. Have your buddy check the three point alignment on the belt the next time he has the car. _________________ Mike |

It's lined up correctly, the problem is the idler is supposed to be kept stationary in it's little spring loaded tube by a sort of spline. Trouble is, it's wallowed out now, so the idler moves like 30* left and right, causing the belt to come off.
I should have mentioned that first, I guess.
I thought it was kind of a poopy design, and he's not sure what to do with it. That's why I suggested using a flat idler on the other side of the belt to pull it tight. _________________ Build thread: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=212747

Yeah, sounds like a new tensioner needs to be fabricated. _________________ Mike |
