I have been trying to find out, with not much success, whether or not a Type III chassis can be used instead of a Type I chassis for a dune buggy. That is, can it be used without much work - especially if one is not going to cut it (in other words, the pan will not be shortened).

If anyone can send me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it. Note; my main choice for a chassis right now is a 1969 Type (this would allow an IRS suspension AND allow me to put CA black plates on the ride).

So, would a 1969 Type III work?

Thanks for your input...

No. The rear suspension is not an integral part of a Type 3 chassis and partially supported by the body.

However, you should buy the Type 3, get the registration and title current with the DMV, then remove, the section of tunnel with numbers, black plates and documents and use them on a Type 1 chassis or have dave Barrett build you a chassis.
